Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, is a growing topic of concern in today’s child population. In a new report released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this disorder has been diagnosed in 1.6 million elementary school aged children. It is said that in a typical classroom with 30 students, 1 to 3 children will have ADHD. And in fact, a national survey showed that 7% of children aged 6 to 11 years of age were reported to have ADHD by their doctor or health professional. ADHD is more prevalent in boys than in girls, with boys being diagnosed 3 times as often as girls.
Picture a boy named David. He is a growing, healthy, happy boy. He has ADHD, but it is not something you can see. It is more like a learning disability, but that’s not exactly right either. David is the kid who acts before he thinks, usually on some rash impulse. He is the child who will ride his big-wheel down a flight of stairs. He is the child who speaks before he thinks of what he is saying, most times with embarrassing results. He cannot seem to remember a simple request, no matter how often you tell him. He is easily distracted from any task he is doing. Even if he is hurt and crying, his tears can be shut off instantly as something else comes into his view. He is the kid in school whom teachers tell you could do the work if only he set his mind to it.

Bringing your new baby home from the hospital is certainly one of the great joys in life. Here is this precious new life that you have brought into the world and it is now up to you to see that your baby is happy and healthy. It is a lot of responsibility but it can be a lot of fun too. And part of that fun is in all of the cute little baby things that you can find on the market today.
Although you will need a lot of general baby supplies when you bring your newborn baby home from the hospital, you can also get a few things that may not be essential but will be fun and will make your life easier.
Beware, though, of buying too many of the convenience items that may take the place of the natural care of your baby. For instance, try rocking and holding the baby yourself instead of constantly using a pacifier to soothe him.
Although a baby stroller is a must to have, you may want to consider using a baby sling sometimes instead. Baby slings are fairly new product in the marketplace that are catching on quickly. They come in many fun styles, patterns and materials...

For many parents it is hard to believe how fast their babies grow up and turn into little people. The on-coming of the child’s first day of school is sometimes as hard to take for the parents as it is for their child. Many emotions can come into play—from shock (realizing that their baby is a baby no more) to fear (how will my child handle the stresses of school?). But the biggest change happens in the child’s life.
The first day of school for any child can be a stressful experience. They are leaving their secure home environment and are leaving the supporting and loving arena created by their parents. They are literally being left alone to handle life for the first time. The world they are entering has many new faces and new obstacles to overcome. It can be overwhelming for a child. And if your child is more of a sensitive sort, it can be devastating.
Some children enter the school system whole-heartedly, with a smile on their face and nary a look back at their parents. These children tend to be emotionally strong and secure with themselves. Other children cling to their mothers and seem to feel they are being abandoned. They do not seem ready to enter into the real world by themselves.

Teaching your child how to save for present and future needs is an important lesson for all children to learn. As a parent you can set up guidelines and rules in how your child should save for something he wants now (like a new skateboard) and how he should save for future needs (such as his college education). But, you also need to know if he understands the importance of what he is learning. And, your child needs to understand the steps that should be taken to achieve his goals. In other words, he should understand how the guidelines that you have given him can relate to all aspects of saving so that he can incorporate these rules for his future development.
One good way to find out how much your child already knows is to give him a little test. At first, when your child is young, this can just be a little verbal dialogue where you can assess his saving knowledge. For example, perhaps you have given your child the lesson in how to put his birthday money that grandpa gave him into a jar, along with the money his received from their paper route, in order to save for an expensive skateboard that he wants. Or if the money has been put into a bank account, a young child may not understand where his money has gone...
