In the beginning…so starts the Bible and so starts your internet building empire process. Starting an internet business is never easy. It can mean a lot of hard work and long hours—and don’t let anyone tell you differently. You need to build your business and have people visit it (as traffic) before you show any signs of success.

Article marketing is one of the easiest ways to get traffic to your website. It may not be the fastest method, but it is easy to do and very affordable (even free)—and when you are beginning an internet marketing business, you always need things that are easy and cheap.

When you start your internet marketing business you are probably on a tight budget. It can be expensive to get your website built. It can also be expensive trying to get information on how to work the business. You can spend a fortune on books and information that may not always prove valuable. And after you realize that have blown your budget, you probably have not even had your first sale yet.

At this point, you probably do not have any money left over for advertising. Of course, the pay-per-click (PPC) method of advertising will drive traffic to your website faster than any other method, but if you have no money left in your budget that does not help. You need to find other ways to get traffic to your website—and for free. That is where article marketing comes in.

Any person with moderate English skills and minimal writing ability is able to write articles and have them published on article directories. If your articles are at least interesting, various webmasters and bloggers will pick up your articles for use as information on their sites, sometimes within hours of the articles being published.

Now the trick with article marketing is to have your published articles point back (or link) to your website. That is how the traffic is drawn to you.

Many experts will tell you that you need to learn a lot of complicated stuff (like keywords, long tail keyword strings, latent semantic indexing, etc.) that is used to make your article marketing ventures into profitable pulls to your website. And the next thing you may be told is that you need to learn HTML, PHP, CSS or a whole bunch of other things. It is quite easy to become overwhelmed, and many people throw up their hands and quit.

The truth is, however, that the most important thing you need is a burning desire to succeed. The depth of your desire will drive you to do the things you need to do (like article marketing) that will make a real difference in your success. But, as mentioned before, it will take some work and dedication to the task.

The good news is that the concept of article marketing is very simple. You write an article with a particular keyword, or keyword phrase, in mind and publish it. Just to touch on the concept, a keyword or phrase (also known as long tail keywords) are the words that an internet searcher types in the search box to find the information that they are looking for. Your website needs to answer a search question from that particular person in order for them to visit your website.

With article marketing, the article you write should respond to that same keyword or phrase that was typed in the search box. You then simply publish the article to various search directories or article sites.

The heading of your article should include the keyword or phrase that you are responding to as well, in order for the search engines to find it. The body or text of your article should also include the keyword a couple of times (not too many, as the search engines frown on keyword-stuffed articles).

You should also use Latent Semantic Indexing. This is where you use words that are similar to your keyword phrase, but the words do not exactly match. This allows you to have a natural flow to your article.

The most important aspect of article marketing is the ‘About the Author’ box. This is where you put in the link to your site—the information that will draw the traffic. The link you use in the ‘About the Author’ box should contain the full URL to your website, not just a hidden hyper-link. For example, http://yoursite.com should be used instead of just yoursite.com. This allows the spiders to identify and link to your site. Every time your article is used, it will provide a one-way link to your website.

The main secret to successful article marketing is to write many, many articles and point them all (via links) to your website. This is how you will get traffic for free.

If you do not have the time or the skill to write the articles yourself, there are other ways to get traffic with article marketing. You can outsource the work and hire someone to write the articles for you. This can be an expensive way to do it, but it can also prove to be worth it to draw traffic to your website.

You can also purchase Private Label Rights packages which contain a number of articles. This is a cheaper way to get articles and still be able to succeed with article marketing. Whichever way you do it, you will need to publish a lot of articles. And you need to have each article point back to your website to gain the traffic you are looking for.

One last tip with article marketing: remember to do the necessary keyword research to find relevant keywords and phrases appropriate to your website and to target your articles to your website.
